K1 Kickboxing Rules

For those unfamiliar with K1 kickboxing, it is a combat sport that has risen to become one of the world's most popular forms of martial arts. It combines techniques from traditional martial arts such as Karate, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing with Western-style boxing. At Stables Fight Club, our K1 Kickboxing are the standard rules accepted for amature compeitions.

How Many Rounds ?

Our tournaments rounds will be 2  - 2 min rounds where a third round will be implemented if the 2 previous rounds ends in a draw by the refee and the judges.

Combat Rules

No knees to the head are allowed, punches to the head and body are permitted and kicks to the head, body and legs are also allowed.  

Strikes to the groin and other areas not allowed under standard K1 rules will mean a loss of points of disqualification. 

Scoring

Scoring in K-1 is based on several criteria, including effective striking, knockdowns, aggression, and defense. Points are awarded for:

  • Clean Strikes: Effective punches, kicks, and knee strikes that land cleanly on the opponent.

  • Knockdowns: A knockdown scores heavily and can significantly influence the judges' decision.

  • Aggression: Consistent forward movement and attempts to engage the opponent.

  • Defense: Effective blocking, parrying, and evading techniques.

Techniques and Rules

Legal Techniques

  • Punches: All types of punches are allowed, including jabs, hooks, uppercuts, and crosses.

  • Kicks: All types of kicks are allowed, including roundhouse kicks, front kicks, and spinning kicks.

  • Knee Strikes: Knee strikes are allowed to the body and head.

  • Clinch: Fighters can clinch briefly to deliver a knee strike but must release immediately after.

Illegal Techniques

  • Elbow Strikes: Elbows are not allowed.

  • Throws and Takedowns: Throws, sweeps, and grappling techniques are not permitted.

  • Headbutts: Headbutts are illegal.

  • Strikes to the Groin: Any attack to the groin is prohibited.

  • Strikes to the Back of the Head or Spine: These are not allowed.

  • Holding: Holding an opponent's leg or continually holding and hitting without releasing is prohibited.

  • Striking an Opponent when Down: Not allowed.

K1 Kickboxing Categories 

We have divided this category into 3 divisions kids, adults and experienced. We reserve the right to merge weight divisions in the 3 listed if there aren't enough competitors in a single division.

Take a look at the weight classes for each of these divisions before signing up.

Kids Category

This division is for Boys and Girls who are below 16, in this division, they will be divided on weight experience along with if strikes to the face is allowed

Adult Beginners

This category is divided among Males and Females who have below 2 years of combat experience.

Adults Experiened 

This division is divided among males and females who have above 2 years of combat experience 

Required Equipment

Please note that to participate in the tournament you need to ensure that you have all the equipment listed, if you do not have the equipment listed you will not be able to fight.

  • Headguard

  • Mouthguard

  • 12oz gloves

  • Shin guards

  • Groin guard

Adults Equiment 

Kids' required equipment :

  • Headguard (optional)

  • Mouthguard

  • 14oz gloves
